Surreptitious Killer - 2

2. WhatsApp Chat Ann: Girl, did you hear? Aba: What? Ann: Sister Kate was just delivered of a bouncy baby boy. Aba: Who is Kate? Ann: This really smallish lady in our church. She's on the evangelism team Aba: No face is coming to mind oh. Forwards a photo of Sister Kate Aba: Oh okay! This nice sister. And you said she what? Ann: She just had a baby Aba: Ah, but when was she pregnant? I never noticed. Ann: As for you, you just walk this church for nothing. You're the only person who didn't know. Aba: Ei! How long have you known? Ann: Oh, from the start. You know I have an eye for detail. Nothing passes me by. Aba: Yeah, and a nose for fishing. Ann: Whatever. That's not even the best part... Aba: There's more? Ann: The father of the baby is also in the church! Aba: You can't be serious. Ann: Guess who it is. Aba: Well, if I must, I'll say it's that drummer, King. They're always together. Ann: Oh, so you really are in this church af

Surreptitious Killer - 1

This month, I’m talking about something- an issue that is close to all of us. To aid our understanding, I’ll be giving illustrations. These will cover the next 5or 6 posts. Enjoy!   1. 'Oh no... Gertrude, come take a look at this.' Trudging over, 'It better be good or I'm gonna smack you.' 'It's definitely nothing to laugh over.' Shows Gertrude a photo on her phone. 'Who's this?' 'Guess.' 'Really? You're showing me boobs lips and I'm supposed to know whose body it is?' 'Well, you can try. She's from our church.' Looks really hard at the photo. 'You got me, I don't know who it is.' Sighs. 'That is Lucy.' Gasps with eyes wide open. 'The steward's daughter?' 'Is there another you know of?' Trish asks irritably. 'And where did you get this?' 'Someone called Pizza 'mistakenly' put it in the church group.'

October’s Goodbye

Image
It's the last day of the best month of the year, October (please if you disagree, soak the sky). It came with a way to celebrate the female: international day of the girl child on the 11th and 'No Bra Day' on the 13 th . Not to leave out the month-long awareness of breast cancer, showing concern for an aspect of the health of this beautiful creature called woman. With all the breast cancer education going on, you must have heard and learnt something new, either for yourself, your mother, sister, wife or friend. You know, we often hear people say that ‘women are their own enemies’. Really, I don’t think it’s just women; I think people usually are the cause of their downfall, both men and women. There’s such a fine line between religion and information/common sense that sometimes it is hard to tell. And people choose to hide under the shadow of the former and wallow in obliviousness. Take the instance that we know that living in a filthy environment makes one predisposed

Helping the Process

I used to be very selective about who I gave my phone number to (I still am, just toned down a bit). I didn't want too many numbers in my contacts because let's face it, how many of the people in your contacts do you stay in touch with on even a monthly basis? Really, how big is your circle? Periodically I'd go through my phone book and remove names of people I hadn't been in touch with for a while. If you were ever a victim, forgive juvenile me. Then a friend taught me to be less choosy, because you didn't know where your miracle was going to come from. In case you were wondering, oh yes, it has helped me (dreamy smile). I'm sure you have a story or two up your sleeve on that yourself. One evening on my way home from church I came across this guy. I noticed him. He was quite catchy and he noticed me, I know. He was staring. I have this 'thing' of smiling at people when I make eye contact, even people I don't know. I find it easier than to q

Loving You

In my family, the ladies are endowed in body shape, especially when it comes to the upper part of the body. I mean, we're not bursting, but we're blessed: from my sister after me to the one after her to me (in that order). The last one is still young, but I can tell she'll join the train, and by the way we're all girls so, yeah. My Grandmother was well-endowed and so is my Mum. All of us (I'm talking about my sisters and I) had our bodies develop relatively early in comparison with our mates. Sure, it wasn’t always just us; there were always one or two girls who were more conspicuous. The point is we weren't many and so we were visible. Personally, I remember being teased by some class mates, especially when we were learning about the physical changes in the adolescent for the first time. I didn't like it and though I tried not to show it (because teens can be really mean and when they caught on that you didn't like something, that was when they r

A New Beginning

“Most of life's actions are within our reach, but decisions take willpower.” -Robert McKee  I started writing again. And it feels really good. After two years (quite the break), I finally posted something. Two whole years. You don't have to say it, I know that's a really long time. Not that the entire time I didn't write anything at all. I wrote a few things that I either didn't finish or didn’t post because I didn't think were good enough. And then my hard drive crashed and crushed all my stuff along with it (no, I did not have a backup), including my will to put pen to paper within that period. Fine, the first year I was busy with final year and project work, the second I was so engrossed in my service to the nation and loving every second of it. Not that it's a good excuse, because I had time to do other things. While I found the time to do other things than writing, those who wanted to write did exactly that. People who cared asked. I kept co
